Actuator Unit Sizing Tool and Decision Report for AMR Drive Systems

For AMR and AGV engineering teams comparing actuator units, actuator drive units, or actuator driving units, this page explains an early torque screen, architecture tradeoffs, and the evidence needed before supplier selection. The interactive calculator is free; the method and decision boundaries below remain readable without it.

Published by AMRDriveUnit. The formulas and planning heuristics are company-authored screening guidance, not independent laboratory results or customer case studies.

Load the free calculator to estimate per-wheel torque and review the result against stated assumptions and boundary warnings.

How to screen an actuator unit before an RFQ

Estimate rolling resistance, grade force, and acceleration force from total moving mass. Divide total traction force across the drive wheels, then multiply by wheel radius to estimate torque per wheel.

Screening equations

Fpeak = c * m * g + m * g * grade + m * v / t

T per wheel = Fpeak * wheel radius / drive wheels

The calculator applies a configurable 15%–40% planning reserve. This is an internal screening heuristic, not a required value from a public standard.

What the estimate does not prove

  • Equal wheel loading or traction under every floor condition.
  • Motor or gearbox thermal performance over a real duty cycle.
  • Control-loop timing, stopping performance, or safety compliance.
  • Final product fit without OEM data and pilot validation.

Before procurement, replace assumed floor resistance with pilot telemetry, request OEM torque-versus-temperature data, verify cycle time and jitter on the intended network, and complete the application safety review.

Actuator unit sizing questions

Does this page explicitly answer alias queries like actuator driving units, actuator drive unit, actuation unit, actuating unit, and actuat units?

Yes. The alias intents actuator driving units, actuator drive unit, actuation unit, actuating unit, actuat units, and actuat unit are handled on this canonical URL without creating separate competing routes.

Is this page both a calculator and a decision report?

Yes. The page provides a free interactive sizing tool plus a decision report with its method, evidence, limitations, and architecture tradeoffs.

Can I use this result as final procurement evidence?

No. This page is an early-stage sizing and architecture screening workflow. Final supplier selection still requires OEM validation data and pilot tests.

How do I share an alias anchor for actuator driving units intent?

Use /learn/actuator-unit#alias-actuator-driving-units to open the canonical sizing workflow. The other alias anchors also resolve on this same page: #alias-actuator-drive-unit, #alias-actuation-unit, #alias-actuating-unit, #alias-actuat-units, and legacy #alias-actuat-unit.

What should I do when the result is high-risk or inconclusive?

Close telemetry and safety gaps first, then rerun with updated assumptions before committing to BOM or supplier contracts.
